Types of monitoring devices

- Medtronic Guardian Connect
- Freestyle Libre 2
Dexcom G6
- Blood sugar values automatically get pushed to smartphone every 5 minutes
- Has ability to set alarms for high or low sugars
Medtronic Guardian Connect
- Medtronic manufactures the glucose monitor in combinbation with their insulin pump called “Minimed” or as a standalone device which is called the “Guardian Connect“
- The Minimed insulin pump has the ability to completely automate basal insulin delivery since it also has an inbuilt continuous glucose monitor
- Most expensive out of the three
Freestyle Libre
- Known as a flash sensor
- Measures every minute
- The Libre reader which can be the smartphone must be passed over the sensor at least every 8 hours to transfer the data from the glucose monitor to the phone
- Does not have the ability to set alarms for highs or lows
Freestyle Libre 2
- Also a flash sensor
- Has the ability to set low and high blood sugar alarms
- But can only see the actual value once the smartphone is passed over the sensor
